Form and Function
EXPRESSION OF TRUTH AND BEAUTY
This project examines the relationship of form and function in architectural design. It encourages the awareness of truth, whatever position the designer takes, and promotes the arbitrary aesthetic of “functional” beauty. This project also examines the method and process of idea generation through conceptual combinations.

Preliminary Designs
I used the Quebec Bridge for my main design, while the mechanism I used was simply inspired by a phone stand. The bridge height was lifted in order to leave enough space for a 30'x40' opening. The structure of the bridge was slightly adjusted to support the first roller system placed above the opening, which will lift the roadbed directly up. A second roller system on the side will be used to pull in the component connected to the roadbed as it is being lifted. Lastly, the end rollers will be attached to a motor box, which will pull them in.
